Element Sustainability were delighted to support the project team at S J Roberts Construction Ltd on the Allscott Meads Primary School development to achieve their target of securing a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating at Post Construction.
The school development, located in Telford, Shropshire, comprises the construction of a new, high specification primary school, which focussed on incorporating sustainability measures within the design and construction from the outset.
The assessment achieved a score of 57.60% at Post Construction Stage, comfortably achieving the targeted ‘Very Good’ rating.
Key sustainability measures incorporated within the scheme include:
- excellent levels of daylighting within the classrooms, creating bright, vibrant spaces;
- highly efficient gas boilers used for heating and hot water, reducing the buildings energy demand and carbon emissions from the scheme;
- cycle storage provided to promote active travel to site;
- efficient water consuming systems installed to reduce the buildings overall water consumption;
- construction materials with Environmental Product Declarations and Responsible Sourcing Certificates favoured, ensuring materials have a reduced environmental impact;
- ecological enhancements to the site, ensuring the development made improvements to on-site ecology as a result of works; and
- drainage measures on-site improved the rate of surface water run-off, reducing the risk of flooding from the development.
This was a great project to be involved with and Element Sustainability were delighted to support the development and construction team to ensure the target BREEAM rating was achieved at Post Construction.
