The Future Homes and Buildings Standards

The Government are now working on the consultation responses and Home Energy Model following the public consultation on changes to Part 6 (Scottish Building Standards), Part L and Part F of the Building Regulations for dwellings and non-domestic buildings that concluded in March 2024. Timescales It is currently expected there will be an announcement in Spring 2025, this is expected to include the consultation responses and a free MHCLG tool to help understand the intricacies and new inputs of the Home Energy Model. In addition to this, Elmhurst are also confirmed to be working on their Home Energy Model application, but as of this moment do not have a fixed timeline for its release. Achieving Excellence for SKY UK

Element Sustainability were delighted to work with the project team on SKY UKs latest refurbishment project in Leeds. We supported the team from the early design stages through to post construction to achieve a brilliant BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating. The development is located in central Leeds and comprises a refurbishment of existing office space providing new collaborative workspace with catering facilities. The assessment achieved a score of 76.00%, which represents a robust ‘Excellent’ rating score, and demonstrates the commitment to sustainability measures which were at the forefront of the building design. EPC Reform

The government has just released its public consultation on the reforms to Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs). The consultation focuses on changes to EPCs in England and Wales with the aim being to make EPCs more useful and accessible, helping property owners understand energy performance and identify ways to reduce their energy costs and carbon emissions. The aim is also to future-proof EPCs, ensuring they support the UK’s energy and environmental goals The consultation invites feedback on revisions to the Energy Performance of Buildings framework for England and Wales. It covers potential updates to Domestic and Non-Domestic EPCs, as well as related documents like Display Energy Certificates (DECs) for public buildings and Air Conditioning Inspection Reports (ACIRs).
