25 Years of SAP

The 11th of September saw the 25th anniversary of the ‘Standard Assessment Procedure’ (SAP) methodology. The first version of SAP, created in 1993 by the Building Research Establishment (BRE), was the result of much research into papers, methodologies and standards throughout the 70s and 80s. Its purpose was to allow the Government to compare and assess the energy and environmental performances of dwellings in order to underpin policy initiatives. 25 years on, the Standard Assessment Procedure is still used as an accurate and reliable methodology to provide dwelling energy performances. The latest version, SAP 10, has now been published in advance of the next building regulations change to allow the industry to understand the upcoming changes and see how SAP is developing.

Here at Element Sustainability, we are coming up to our own anniversary of 7 years of trading! For nearly 7 years, our in-house, accredited energy assessors have been producing SAP calculations (among many other energy compliance services!) and lodging building Energy Performance Certificates for a range of clientele including bespoke projects and significant developments for some the country’s largest house builders.
