Building Regulation, Part L Update Delay

26th July 2013

The anticipated 2013 update to Building Regulation Part L (which sets out the energy efficiency requirements for buildings) will not be implemented until April 2014.

The changes to Part L were initially consulted on in January 2012 and were expected to come into force in October 2013, but the government’s response to that consultation has been delayed –  partly due to the ongoing discussions concerning the Housing Standards Review.

The Department for Communities and Local Government still intends to announce its Part L proposals in the House of Lords before it enters recess on 30 July however, the delay will no doubt will undermine the push towards zero-carbon homes regulations targeted for 2016.
