New Instruction – BREEAM Assessment and Consultancy Services

Purcell, a leading nationwide architectural design and historic building consultancy, have instructed Element Sustainability to provide BREEAM assessment and certification services for the proposed Island scheme in Caernarfon, North Wales. This unique project will require a high level of involvement and consultancy due to the complexity and different elements that the scheme includes.

The proposals will create nineteen new and refurbished retail units and workshops to be let to heritage crafts, artisan manufacture and local food businesses for visitors and residents. Four holiday lets will also be provided. The Grade II* listed Harbour Trust building will be refurbished as part of the proposed scheme.

In accordance with the funding criteria, the BREEAM target rating is ‘Excellent’ which, represents a performance equivalent to the top 10% of UK commercial buildings.

At this early stage in the development cycle our qualified licenced BREEAM assessors will complete BREEAM Pre-assessment reports and will liaise with the design team to agree the preferred route to BREEAM compliance. This process will also determine the feasibility and viability of the challenging BREEAM ‘Excellent’ target for the Grade II listed and refurbished buildings.

We have numerous live BREEAM projects. We apply our experience to guide developers and advise on the most pragmatic approach to BREEAM compliance.
