DECC announces Green Deal Finance Company funding to end

We were made aware yesterday afternoon of DECC’s decision to cease funding to the Green Deal Finance Company and Green Deal Home Improvement Fund. A press release on the gov.uk website states:
‘In light of low take-up and concerns about industry standards there will be no further funding to the Green Deal Finance Company, in a move to protect taxpayers.

The Government will work with the building industry and consumer groups on a new value-for-money approach, the Energy and Climate Change Secretary announced today.

Amber Rudd also announced that the Government will stop any future funding releases of the Green Deal Home Improvement Fund’.

There will be many questions about the future of Green Deal and what this means for those of you involved in the industry. For now, we know the following:

  • The Green Deal has not ended;
  • Providers can still write Green Deal Plans with alternative finance; and
  • Green Deal Assessments are still valid for other schemes such as ECO.
