Beat the Monday Blues

Today is Blue Monday, a day of the year that can feel particularly depressing and it can be easy to forget all the great things that have, and are, happening in the world. To help you beat the Monday Blues, here is a reminder of some positive environmental news stories from 2024.

In January 2024, solar energy capacity increased by 35% in developing countries. By the end of 2024, wind and solar energy had overtaken fossil fuels in the EU and the UK became the first major economy to phase out coal power.

Achieving a 10% Biodiversity Net Gain became mandatory on new build projects from February 2024, helping to create and improve natural habitats across the UK.

Throughout 2024, the United Kingdom demonstrated huge ecosystem restoration efforts through rewilding programmes for native UK species, such as the reintroduction of beavers.

European countries are pioneering renewable heating through heat pump technology which can achieve up to a 70% reduction in carbon emissions. Many of our HQM and BREEAM projects have adopted such technologies and are seeing large improvements in their buildings energy performance, resulting in higher ratings being achieved.
